“Music is life. That’s why our hearts have beats”.
Intent
At Yavneh Primary School, there is always a musical buzz! Whether we are preparing for our next concert or discovering our new Musician of the Month, we aim to instil a love of music in our pupils.
Music is taught from Reception to Year 6 through a skills-based curriculum, centred around the Inter-related Dimensions of Music and based on the 4 pillars of music as highlighted in the Model Music Curriculum – listening, singing, performing and composing.
Our pupils explore diverse musical genres, from Ghanaian songs in Year 1 to the impact of musicals in Year 6 and develop their skills in composition, improvisation and instrumental learning. Performance is at our core, with regular opportunities such as music assemblies, school concerts, and collaborations with professional orchestras like the LSO.
Vocal music is central to daily life, with four choirs offering something for everyone. Monthly spotlights on composers and musicians, from Nina Simone to Hans Zimmer, broaden pupils’ horizons and spark creativity.
At Yavneh, we love to sing, perform and work cohesively to allow music to enrich our children’s lives at Yavneh Primary.
