The ATA’s (Active Travel Ambassadors) role is to make sure that the journey to and back from school is safe for everyone. They are proud to be able to help our school with anything related to travel.
They were elected in Year 5 and had to write a manifesto to explain why they wanted to become ATAs and why they thought they would be really good at it. They meet every Wednesday and talk about upcoming projects and tasks. For example, they have done a survey with pupils from the school about how they travel to and from school. They have helped doing lots of scooter workshops with the younger years, given lots of speeches to the classes about upcoming events and have helped plan Walk to School Week and Road Safety Week. Proudly, they have helped the school earn the silver travel status on Modeshift STARS and they are currently working towards Gold Status.
Every day the whole school complete a self-registration Travel Tracker using the Living Streets Travel Tracker programme. Each month they look at which classes walk the most to school and award the class with WOW badges, a trophy and a teddy called Trevor the Tracker to keep in their class. They really love our role as ATAs and feel like they are doing something positive to help our school and the environment around it.
