“We get to do lots if typing up and coding. I actually really enjoyed making Egyptian PowerPoints and the one about Israel in Lumedei Kodesh too.” – Jacob age 8
Intent
At Yavneh Primary our intention is to provide our children with a computing education that enables them to be computer literate while understanding how to use technology across the curriculum. Our broad curriculum which encompasses online safety, computer science, information technology and digital literacy will support the pupils to become confident in using technology while building their knowledge and understanding. In addition to acknowledging that technology allows pupils to share their learning in creative ways, we will embrace the accessibility opportunities technology can provide for our pupils. Our experience rich curriculum is balanced with the opportunity for pupils to apply their knowledge creatively helping our pupils to become skilful computer scientists. Pupils become fluent with a range of tools and, as they progress through the school, have the confidence to choose the best tool to fulfil any challenge set.
As technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal part in students’ lives, we support them in using technology positively, responsibly and safely. Children have an understanding that there is always a choice when using technology and will be supported to make appropriate choices that are in accordance with the values of ‘The Yavneh Way’ which promotes politeness, kindness, courtesy and, in this instance, respect for technology.
All staff will promote appropriate behaviour with technology through education, modelled behaviour and also class discussions. Each year group will also be provided with learning opportunities to educate pupils about the importance of online safety and what to do when feeling unsafe or unhappy when online.
