“Science means we get to do experiments. We got to see things set on fire and burn just to test our hypothesis. What is more fun?” – Romaio age 10
At Yavneh Primary School we follow the National Primary Science Curriculum and the skills appropriate for each year group.
Science is successfully taught from Reception, showing the Understanding of the World, until our young people leave their Primary Education in Year 6. On their Scientific journey the children develop a progression of skills and scientific knowledge. The pupils show a positive attitude towards the subject and an enjoyment of the skills gained through investigation and experimentation. They are encouraged to learn through practical activities, ask questions and problem solve.
In our school, the intention is to create a ‘buzz’ for Science learning through a ‘hook’ and excitement across the school for the subject. We have Science days/weeks where children are able focus to absorb their scientific thinking and explore scientific ideas more readily. The visits from our own ‘mad professors’ often enhance the science activities and the children are excited to find out what they will be learning. They enjoy the educational visits and videos of the ‘professors’ on Teams and Tapestry.
