“I always choose challenge 3 because I like to push myself. The maths is always so hands on like using; bead strings, numicon, fraction blocks, dienes and all the other things.” – Ezra age 7
The intent of our maths curriculum is to provide children with a foundation for understanding number, reasoning, thinking logically and problem solving with resilience so that they are fully prepared for the future.
At Yavneh Primary School, we recognise that maths is a key skill within school and through everyday experiences. The children have developed a positive attitude towards maths and an awareness of how maths is all around us in our everyday lives. They are encouraged to use manipulatives throughout every year group to develop their understanding of mathematical concepts and to expose them to a concrete, pictorial, abstract (CPA) approach. The children are exposed to a variety of experiences, including real life contexts, where their reasoning and problem-solving skills are developed.
